xs650 bobber documentary ~ short film – REPLIES REQUESTED
November 4th, 2009 | Articles | 24 Comments »Xs650 bobber documentary or short film. My name is Brian ~ I’m an amateur bike builder. I’ve noticed a really cool culture developing around garage builders, dirt balls, drag bikes, rat bikes, bar hoppers, choppers, and the like. I decided to compile a little longer a video to show off the bike (obviously) and talk a little more about exactly what it means to me to be riding what I build, and my appreciation for DIY or building on the cheap. This bike was built from a 1973 yamaha xs650 twin …
Your bike has some great lines. Watch out, XS650′s are addictive as I’m sure you already know. I have 6 right now.
Cool video. The intro cracked me up, well done. Really like the simple style of your build too.
Brian, we need to be friends! Your philosophy fits right in with ours, we’re not religious about bikes, we just build and ride casue it feels right.
I like the video, has a familiar feel to it. Keep up the good work and check us out sometime at scrawnys. com
5 of 5 from me mate! Your bike looks great, your video is cool to watch and you yourself seem damn cool too. Check out my XS650 vids – mine is yet to get on the road but we’re both into the same vibe it appears. Cheers from down under.
Great work mate!
my favorite xs 650 video by ten times.
Great looking bike my friend! I’ve got a 1982 Virago 750 I’m bobbing and am bouncing around checking what all is out there. My biggest concern at the moment is where I’m going to stash all the wiring…
Your bike is perfect, it is exactly what i envision mine to be. quick question, does your frame still have the stock rake? your bike just looks more streamline then most xs chops or bobs..
It is a stock rake w/ stock 19″ wheel. Most important part of getting the lines right are to make sure you have a perfectly straight line from your neck to rear axle. The bottom of the frame may have a slight kink or bend. Do not worry, it will look tits once assembled.
I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that you are running an 18″ rear wheel instead of a 16″….It gives a more balanced look.. Great Stuff
yeah – I sometimes forget that I shelved the 16″ for the 18″. Those added 2″ really make a ton of difference in the bikes final stance. I’ve kept the 16 in the garage fro a future retro xs650 drag bike. That project begins in a month or so.
Great video , I love the ,” Hello I’m Brian amateur bike builder extrodinair!” great bike man I agree with 100% Im glad to see the custom culture staying alive , It dont take a ton of money or any great skill just a imagination a torch , compressor , welder an some basic know how … Peace
Nice scoot man, im lookin for a pre-unit triumph myself right now.
Put up some info about the bike…
Amazing bike, video, and song! What song is it btw? Just curious!

Badass bike, I use this video as inspiration as my search for a xs650 continues…Somebody email me if they find a garbage xs650 in the southeast region! Keep up the good work!
Brian, very cool bike. I worked at a Yamaha dealership as a mechanic “back in the day”…the 650 Twin is a GREAT MOTOR…excellent choice. Seeing videos like yours makes me want to build one. Love your helmet too!!!!!!!!!!
Really cool bike and video. I already own a stock 72 XS650 and I’m looking to buy another one to build a bobber. Great work !
