1977 Yamaha XS 650 Custom Chopper Bobber Build

I built this bike this year, and it’s a beast. I wish I had better audio on my camera because it just doesn’t do justice to this bike’s deep and throaty growl. I love kicking this beast into action.

Like the ride… Did you do the work yourself? I’m surprised by how easily you got that sucker to start up, I take it you already warmed it up before taping.

Thanks. TC bros. Choppers welded the hardtail for me and a local powdercoater did the paint, but everything else I did. It usually takes a couple kicks to get it started when cold outside, but it was a little warmer this day and it fired right up.

What bars are those? Look sick!

  5. I don’t recall, but I bought ‘em on ebay. Did a search for 7/8″ high bars apes. Some company manufacter’s ‘em, so they had quite a few at the time.

your XS650 definitely sounds like a beast. did you have custom exhaust pipes made or just chop the factory pipes?

  9. mattchristojones says:

Actually, those are the stock header pipes. All I did was pull the mufflers off and wrap ‘em with fiberglass heatwrap.

nice man, what’s the spec on this bike and how tall are you?

  11. mattchristojones says:

Not sure what you mean by spec, but it’s got a tc bros weld-on hardtail with 3 inches of stretch on the stock frame. I’m 5′ 10 and it fit me perfectly. If there was one thing I’d change on this bike, it’d be raising the footpegs a bit to get more cornering clearance.
